Founded in 2002 by Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr Bruce Allan, the Allan Centre for Women is the first centre of its kind in Canada. As the only privately run medical centre dedicated to women, the Centre was developed by Dr Allan, in part, through his compassionate regard for women's health and wellness needs and from feedback received from his patients.

"While addressing the very personal health care matters of my patients, many of them would ask me about related matters," shares Dr Bruce Allan. "Some of my patients have complained for years about the inconvenience of health services at multiple locations. And while the quality and professionalism of the care was important, they also valued the physical environment where they were treated. From all this feedback, the Allan Centre for Women was created," adds Dr Allan.

Dr Bruce Allan is at the heart of the Allan Centre for Women. Highly respected by the women he treats, their families and the medical community, Dr Bruce Allan, PhD, MD, FRCS(C), is one of Calgary and Canada's best-known and most trusted obstetrician-gynecologists. Dr Allan is noted for the respect he shows his patients and his ability to make them feel at ease. "He has a wonderful bedside manner" is a common comment about Dr Allan.

Dr Allan is a firm believer that women should be in control of decisions involving their care. By providing an atmosphere of trust and respect, Dr Allan's patients are able to make fully informed choices concerning their health and wellness.

A native Albertan, Dr Allan and his wife of over 25 years, Jane, have two children.

Dr Allan obtained his undergraduate degree in science from the University of Manitoba in 1979. He did graduate work at the University of Alberta, obtaining a PhD in genetics. Dr Allan received his Medical degree from the University of Calgary and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Calgary. He is currently a staff surgeon at both the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary and the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary. Dr Allan is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Calgary. He has a special interest and advanced training in all types of vaginal cosmetic surgery. This special interest, and inquiries from his patients, led Dr Allan to train with Dr David Matlock at the Beverly Hills Surgery Center where he perfected his cosmetic vaginal rejuvenation surgery techniques.

Dr Allan was also trained in hair transplant techniques in California and Canada. He is a certified surgeon for Hair Club and provides hair loss services for both women and men.

Having worked side by side with Dr Allan for over eight years, Karen is the person who will help organize your visits. As the Centre's Surgical Consultant, Karen will inform you on what to expect with any procedures you are receiving, and help with any arrangements you might require. Having focused most of her extensive career in obstetrics and gynecology, and having trained at the Beverly Hills Surgery Center in Los Angeles, California, Karen is knowledgeable about the services you might be seeking. Described as warm and friendly, Karen is an active volunteer, has been married for 20 years, has two children, two dogs and can't tell you enough about how much she loves life and working with Allan Centre for Women patients.
