By definition, the obstetrician- gynecologist is a women's health and reproductive health specialist. This specialist has all the medical, surgical and obstetric knowledge and skills needed to prevent, diagnose, manage and treat a broad range of conditions affecting a woman's reproductive system and gynecological health. On top of providing care and clinical training using both normal and complex obstetric- gynaecology cases, this specialist can greatly contribute to the research field.

Most doctors in this field, including those at the Allan Centre for Women, practice both obstetrics and gynecology. Obstetrics (in Latin meaning "to stand by") is the surgical specialty dealing with the care of a woman and her offspring during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium (the period shortly after birth). Gynecology literally means 'the science of women', but in medicine this is the specialty of diseases of the female reproductive system (uterus, vagina and ovaries).

Obstetrics
There are few times in a woman's life more exciting than pregnancy. However, it can also be a difficult and challenging time for a woman and her family. At the Allan Centre for Women, the experienced medical specialists provide prenatal care in a comforting atmosphere to guide you through this exciting time.
Dr Allan provides delivery services for his patients at the Rockyview General Hospital. He participates in an obstetrical call group, which provides coverage 24 hours per day, seven days per week. This allows the doctors in the group to provide their patients with good medical care. When you arrive at the hospital for care for labour, delivery, postpartum or any obstetrical emergency you will be under the care of the "Obstetrician on Call".

Dr Allan is a specialist gynecologist, meaning he specializes in the care of a woman's reproductive tract, including the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
Dr Allan is a highly skilled vaginal and laser gynaecologic surgeon. He has specialized training in advanced laparoscopic surgery, pelvic and vaginal surgery, laser surgery, endometrial ablation and cosmetic vaginal surgery.
